Sex abuse: ASI remanded in judicial custody

KOTTAYAM: An ASI was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days on charges of kidnapping and unnatural sex on Wednesday. Kottayam SP Hari Sankar said the deputy SP will file a report based on the FIR and the department will take action against the officer. But, the officer will be suspended from duty as his remand period exceeds 48 hours, said Hari Sankar. ASI Shajudeen (55), posted at the AR camp, was arrested by the police based on a complaint filed by the parents of a boy. The boy accepted his offer and the accused then drove to his quarters near civil station under the pretext of taking a file.

Kottayam SP Hari Sankar said the deputy SP will file a report based on the FIR and the department will take action against the officer. But, the officer will be suspended from duty as his remand period exceeds 48 hours, said Hari Sankar. The accused is a yoga trainer who has been taking personality development classes for students and policemen.The accused - who visited the boy's home to meet his father a couple of times - offered a lift to the boy who was waiting at Nagambadom bus stand after his Plus Two exams. The boy accepted his offer and the accused then drove to his quarters near civil station under the pretext of taking a file. It is alleged that he dragged the boy inside the room and abused him.Later, the boy escaped and reached the office of a relative near the East police station. He told the police the registration number of the car driven by the accused. Police tracked down the owner and after a delay, the FIR was registered early on Wednesday.
