THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The general election date for Kerala seems to have triggered a domino effect on the prospects of thousands of students' seeking admission to top engineering institutions elsewhere in the country.A good number of parents and students have approached the state government and the commissioner for entrance examinations in the state, seeking postponement of the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) examination scheduled for April 27 and 28. Their main contention is that the entrance examination to Hyderabad IIIT and Aligarh University engineering entrance clash with the KEAM exam on April 28.The KEAM entrance, in which lakhs of students participate, was originally scheduled to be held on April 22 and 23. It was rescheduled after it was announced that Kerala would go to polls on April 23.The state government, however, is unlikely to budge this time. "We have entrance examination centres not in Kerala alone but in several other states as well. NEET and JEE examinations and elections in Mumbai and Delhi would be clashing with KEAM entrance if we once again postpone the examination. Further, KEAM is a bigger examination, compared to the entrance tests in a few individual institutions, elsewhere in the country," said a source in the office of the state commissioner for entrance examinations.
