Idukki: Nearly 50 families, who stay at an old building of the KSEB in Cheruthoni after the devastating floods destroyed their homes seven months ago, still await the compensation promised by the state government.With another parliament election round the corner, they have decided to give a befitting reply to the state government through their votes.Puthenpurakal Benny Varghese (49) from Perumkala, who stays at the relief camp said, “Our home was partially destroyed. Our church provided six scents to construct a home. We expected the compensation before the declaration of Lok Sabha elections, but nothing happened. We will respond to the government’s stand through our votes.”Beena P J a native of Kochupainavu near Cheruthoni said, “Our home was partially destroyed during the floods and so we shifted to the relief camp. Till now, we didn't get any financial assistance, including the primary assistance Rs 10,000”.Highrange Samrakshna Samithy general convenor Fr Sebastian Kochupurakal said that the farming sector in Cheruthoni region was totally devastated in the August floods. “We need more support from the government to revive the sector,” he said.Gini Kochuparampil, a native of Thadiyampad, said, “Our house was partially destroyed in the flood , but we didn’t receive any compensation from the government.”"We repaired our home a cost of Rs 3 lakh. How will we cast vote for the LDF candidate?” asks Kochuparampil.
