Kannur: With the election campaign gaining momentum, the war of words between the CPM and the Congress has also intensified in Kannur The Congress has approached the authorities alleging that P K Sreemathi, the LDF candidate in Kannur, has violated all norms, while the CPM alleged that the UDF and the BJP are involved in nasty activities against the LDF candidates by destroying and defacing the campaign materials.According to the Congress and the UDF many posters and hoardings by LDF candidate P K Sreemathi are in violation of the Representation of People’s Act (RPA), as they do not carry the names of printer and publisher, or the number of copies.DCC president Satheesan Pacheni said the UDF has given a complaint to district police chief and demanded that a criminal case should be registered against the LDF candidate for violating 127A(1) of the RPA.However, the CPM alleged that the campaign materials of the LDF candidates in Kasaragod, Kannur and Vadakara are being widely destroyed.“The hooligans even demolished a large wall at Kommal near Kodiyeri, where the campaign graffiti for Jayarajan was painted,” said party district secretary M V Jayarajan. There is widespread attack against Sreemathi in social media using derogatory terms, Jayarajan said, adding that the party has filed complaint with the officials concerned.Meanwhile district collector Mir Muhammed Ali, who is also the district election officer, said all boards and banners without the details of the printer and publisher would be removed.
