Cyclothon and interactive campaign on Earth Hour Day

T’puram: The city will join World Wide Fund India to observe ‘Earth Hour Day’, by organizing various events including a cyclothon and interactive campaign apart from switching of lights for an hour on Saturday. One of the world’s biggest people’s campaigns in the wake of global warming and climate change, the ‘Earth Hour Day’ observance involves switching of non-essential lights from 8pm to 9pm.Governor P Sathasivam, on Friday, appealed to people to observe the ‘Earth Hour’ imbibing its true spirit. City mayor V K Prasanth will administer the ‘Give up to give back’ campaign pledge in the evening, which will be followed by a musical evening and candle light vigil at Manaveeyam Road. “By giving up the use of plastic, we could give back to Earth its greenery and serenity. We should conserve water, save energy and use renewable energy in as many areas as possible,” he said in a statement.In the state, the ‘Earth Hour’ observance is being jointly organized by the department of environment and climate change, department of museum and zoos, Energy Management Center, KSEB and so on.A cyclothon will be held from Statue Junction to Manaveeyam Road and the ‘Earth Hour interactive campaign’ featuring games will be held on the premises of Museum and Zoo targeting morning walkers.
