An app that brings snakes at your fingertips!

Snakepedia, which will be helpful to the general public, has been developed by a team of scientists, nature lovers and doctors, said Dr Jineesh P S of the Snakepedia team.

Snakepedia, a comprehensive android mobile application on snakes in Kerala, introduces the reptile with the help of pictures, infographics and podcasts and analyses first aid, treatment, myths and superstitions prevalent in the state. It also has an online help menu for identification of snakes. This is mainly an offline app and all features except podcast and online ID helpline are offline.
Snakepedia, which will be helpful to the general public, has been developed by a team of scientists, nature lovers and doctors, said Dr Jineesh P S of the Snakepedia team.

“Our next aim is to create an offline feature to identify snakes using artificial intelligence. We hope to include that soon. This app may be useful as a life-saving tool,” said Naveenlal Payyeri a team member.

Of the around 3,600 species of snakes in the world, over 300 are found in India. Among them, about 100 species belonging to 12 different families are found in Kerala.
