One of the winners of the First Naari Shakti Puraskar, Smt. Bhageerathi Amma, known fondly as Akshara Muthashi Passed away at 107.

Popularly known as Akshara`s grandmother, Bhagirathi Amma, a native of Prakkulam, Kollam passed away yesterday night. She was 107 years old.

Bhageerathi Ama was the winner of the Narishakti Award. Moreover, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised Bhagirathi Amma in Mann Ki Baat for proving that age is not an issue for study.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m with official honors on the premises. Bhagirathi `Amma went known after passing the Class IV Equivalency Examination conducted by the State Literacy Mission in 2019.

At that time, the pass percentage of Bhageerathi Amma was 74.5. Bhagirathi`s mother, who lost the opportunity to study at a young age, was very much interested in learning and acquiring knowledge.

Although Bhagirathi`s mother had a hard time writing the exams due to her old age, Bhagirathi`s mother, who shone with a pass percentage that surpassed her age, is still in my memory.
