Kerala Now Key Covid Spreader, 2 Day Lockdown, Get Details

  • | Thursday | 29th July, 2021

Kerala is the major spreader of Covid with 50% of positive cases in the country.

With some states reopening schools and decreasing curbs, Kerala is yet tackling the rise in Covid cases. The surge is so worrying that the state has further extended the weekend lockdown from this week.

The central government is sending a six-member team from the National Centre for Disease Control to the state, tweeted Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

"As a large number of Covid cases are still being reported in Kerala, the team will aid the state`s ongoing efforts in Covid management," Mr Mandaviya said in a tweet.

Kerala`s move to announce a three-day relaxation of Covid curbs for Eid-Ul-Azha last week drew sharp comments from the Supreme Court, which called it "wholly uncalled for". However, the top court did not cancel the government notification that eased the lockdown in the state.

The southern state, which has been lauded in the past for its best practices in Covid management, is now contributing over 50 percent of positive cases in the country over the last two days.
