Jaleel inaugurated Vishukkani, the city Corporation’s agricultural and industrial fair, at Putharikandam Maidanam here on Thursday. Minister for Agriculture V.S. Sunil Kumar, who inaugurated the agricultural stalls, said the Agriculture Department would present awards to residents’ associations at the State level for outstanding agricultural activities from this year. The Minister said farming should be expanded in urban areas and people should find time to grow the produce they needed. Vegetables for ?2,200 crore were brought into the State every year. It should be the duty of every person to grow at least a part of what was needed by them, he said. Waste treatment Waste generated in the cities should be treated and used for cultivation. The department had drawn up schemes for this, he added. Minister for Cooperation Kadakampally Surendran presided over the function. Mayor V.K. Prasanth and Deputy Mayor Rakhi Ravikumar were present. The fair will be on till May 7. Seminars and cultural programmes will be held as part of the fair.
