The app, available on android and iOs platforms, can be accessed by employees of GTech 's member companies. The app was launched to address various issues, including safety concerns of employees and lack of parking space at Infopark.According to GTech, as many as 4,000 four-wheelers, excluding company cabs, taxis and pick and drop facilities, reach the Infopark campus every day."It is a challenge to provide enough parking space to meet the exponential increase in the number of vehicles coming to our IT parks. GTech's initiative will go a long way in solving parking woes. The government will offer its support to G-Ride," said IT secretary M Sivasankar."The idea dawned upon us during our discussions with the IT secretary on how to provide effective alternatives for commuters and to tackle parking woes. G-Ride will revolutionize travel habits of IT professionals," said Vijay Kumar P, secretary of GTech."About 90% of the 4,000 cars that come to the Infopark are single-passenger cars. In addition, there are company provided cabs and cars of relatives or friends who drop and pick-up staff. Add another five thousand bikes and you will get an idea of the parking space crunch," he added."Most employees drive to work due to lack of viable alternatives. Car and bike-pooling can be an effective solution, provided the platform is robust. G-Ride automatically matches co-workers and neighbors and help them travel together to work," said Lakshmi Nair, senior software engineer who shared cars for over fifty rides during the testing phase.G-Ride allows to see the profiles of co-passengers in advance. One can opt to display car-pooling options restricted to the same gender."The target is to bring down the use of vehicles by half in two years. With the support of the government, professionals and companies, we can achieve our target," said Praseed S Dev, convenor of corporate alliances, the focus group of GTech, responsible for G-Ride."Several IT companies in cities like Bengaluru, Chennai and Noida encourage car-pooling and ride-sharing.
