FILCA film festival from November 24

The Film Lovers Cultural Association (FILCA) will conduct the 17th edition of its International Film Festival from November 24 to 30 at the University Study Centre at PMG Junction here. Bayona and Lady of the lake, a Manipuri film directed by Haobam Paban Kumar, will be the opening films at the festival. Awards for winners of FILCA’s campus film festival will also be distributed at the ceremony. Forty-three films, including feature films, documentary and short films, will be screened at the festival, M.K.P. Filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan will inaugurate the festival at 5.30 p.m. on November 24.

Forty-three films, including feature films, documentary and short films, will be screened at the festival, M.K.P. Nair, secretary, FILCA, said here. The Impossible, directed by J.A. Bayona and Lady of the lake, a Manipuri film directed by Haobam Paban Kumar, will be the opening films at the festival. This year, the festival will focus more on regional languages in the Indian Cinema section. Kannada,Odiya, Assamese, Manipuri and Rajasthani films are part of the festival’s repertoire. Seven German films will be screened in the Country Focus section. Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski’s Dekalog, which is a series of 10 television drama films, each one based on one of the Ten Commandments, will be screened in the Retrospective section. Kerala Chalachitra Academy chairman Kamal and vice-chairperson Beena Paul will speak at the inauguration ceremony. Awards for winners of FILCA’s campus film festival will also be distributed at the ceremony. Open Forum and Face-to-Face with filmmakers are also part of the festival. Delegate passes for the public have been arranged.
