CM launches logo of meet on free software

Swatantra 2017, the ‘sixth triennial international conference on free software, will be held in the capital city on December 20. An online treasure hunt challenging the participants on their knowledge of free software has already been launched as part of the conference. The two-day conference is being organised by the International Centre for Free and Open Software (ICFOSS), under the Information Technology Department of Kerala. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched the official logo and website (www.swatantra.net.in) at the Secretariat on Monday. With the new edition of Swatantra, the government is underscoring its commitment to free software and reasserting the State’s leadership in the segment, an ICFOSS release here said.

Sivasankar, Secretary, IT, and Jayasankar Prasad, Director, ICFOSS, were present at the launch. An online treasure hunt challenging the participants on their knowledge of free software has already been launched as part of the conference. The conference will feature over 25 speakers with focus on assistive technology, art and design, healthcare and education. With the new edition of Swatantra, the government is underscoring its commitment to free software and reasserting the State’s leadership in the segment, an ICFOSS release here said. Karen Sandler, Director of Software Freedom Conservancy, will be the keynote speaker at the conference.
