‘Ensure supply of sufficient drinking water’

Thambidurai on Saturday asked the district officials to take immediate steps to ensure supply of sufficient drinking water to residents in rural and urban areas during summer. Complaints on drinking water should be immediately attended. S. Valarmathi, Minister for Backward Classes and Minority Welfare, Collector K. Rajamani, N. Ravichandran, Corporation Commissioner, Malarvizhi, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency and others took part. It would enable eligible people to approach the concerned officials to seek benefits of various schemes.

Thambidurai on Saturday asked the district officials to take immediate steps to ensure supply of sufficient drinking water to residents in rural and urban areas during summer. Presiding over the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting at the Collectorate here, in his capacity as the Member of Parliament of Karur constituency under which some parts of Tiruchi district come, he said that priority should be given to drinking water schemes. The officials should closely monitor the progress of drinking water works, augmentation of drinking water sources, deepening of borewells and others at the panchayat union level. Complaints on drinking water should be immediately attended. He said that the Central and State governments sponsored schemes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Swachh Bharat Mission, National Rural and Urban Livelihood Missions, Prime Minister Rural Road Scheme and others should be implemented in a time-bound manner. Review meetings, both at district-level and block-level, should be conducted to monitor the progress of works regularly. Officials should ensure that the benefits reached the targeted groups, he added. Mr. Thambidurai said that there was a need for preparing a pamphlet on completed programmes and schemes. The officials should collect data on schemes implemented during the last four years at the district, corporation, municipal, town panchayat, block and village level. It would be useful for creating awareness among the people on various ongoing Central and State government schemes. It would enable eligible people to approach the concerned officials to seek benefits of various schemes. S. Valarmathi, Minister for Backward Classes and Minority Welfare, Collector K. Rajamani, N.
