Trichy: Around 300 traders and vendors took part in a consultation meeting on Tuesday at Ponmalai weekly market and came up with their own proposal of fees, which could be collected from them by the Trichy Railway Division. The traders and vendors have planned to submit the new proposal as a petition to the railway department’s divisional railway manager U K Reddy. Following this, Trichy railway division decided to postpone its decision to collect licence and parking fee at least for a month. The traders and vendors conducted a consultation meeting on Tuesday evening and came up with a revised (decreased) fee, which they would be willing to pay to the railway department. Some of the revised structures they came up with included a fee of Rs 5 for peddlers (instead of the initially proposed fee of Rs 20), Rs 10 for two-wheeler vendors (instead of Rs 30), Rs 15 for three-wheeler vendors (instead of Rs 40), Rs 30 for four-wheeler vendors (instead of Rs 150) and Rs 20 for hawkers (instead of Rs 200).The Southern Railway’s proposed fee ranged from Rs 5 to Rs 1,000 for occupying the ground and daily parking fee of up to Rs 10 from visitors.
