Transition: 39 ad hoc teachers in BDU colleges may lose jobs

Trichy: In all, 39 ad hoc teachers working in the constituent colleges of Bharathidasan University are most likely to lose their job in the ongoing transition of constituent colleges into government colleges. Unlike guest lecturers (GL) or hourly basis guest lecturers (HGL), PTA teachers are kept ‘offline’. PTA teachers have been omitted from the list of ad hoc teachers that the university has submitted to the state government. A decision on their temporary appointment is vested with the principal of the respective colleges after getting nod from the university. Known as parents teachers association (PTA) teachers, they are the most underprivileged among three types of ad hoc teachers hired by the university for the model and constituent colleges.They are paid a mere Rs 5,000 a month out of the PTA fee collected from students in the respective college.

Unlike guest lecturers (GL) or hourly basis guest lecturers (HGL), PTA teachers are kept ‘offline’. Apart from the fact that their attendance is recorded by the respective colleges, they can neither claim experience certificate nor are they allowed to take part in the university evaluation process.Meanwhile, PTA teachers in the model colleges at Inamkulathur and Veppur were asked not to come to the college till further instructions a couple of days ago.They may also be left out once the model and constituent colleges are converted to government colleges. PTA teachers have been omitted from the list of ad hoc teachers that the university has submitted to the state government. The list was sought by the government soon after chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced the takeover of the constituent colleges.Confirming the information, vice-chancellor P Manisankar told TOI that PTA teachers were appointed by the respective principals based on their requirement and the university had hardly any role in it.Along with the list of guest lecturers, the hourly basis guest lecturers (HGL) have also been included in the list of faculty members submitted to the state government to be considered for regularisation based on their eligibility.
