Trichy: Burglars attempted to steal mobile phones and chargers worth Rs 2 lakh from a showroom, near Tollgate No. 1 on the outskirts of Trichy on Wednesday night, but was foiled when passers-by noticed them.According to the police, the showroom is run by Rengaprabhu, 35, of Samayapuram, and Duraipandi, from the same area, on the Trichy-Nochiam road in a one room shop with sheet roof. After completing the day’s sales, the partners left the showroom around 10pm on Wednesday.During the wee hours on Thursday, two burglars approached the mobile shop with a ladder and climbed on the roof and removed just get enough sheets to get into the shop. The came out with two bags containing mobile phones, chargers and some other valuables.When the duo landed on the ground with the loot, some labourers who were passing by noticed them and raised an alarm. This made the burglars abandon the bags and run from getting caught.The labourers chased the two for a distance, however, the miscreants managed to escape. They alerted police as well as the partners of the shop. Manachanallur police rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry.When the police inspected the bags, it contained 20 new mobile phones and chargers and 25 mobile phones received for service. The loot was recovered them and a case registered based on a complaint lodged by owners.
