Event organisers are responsible for snarl-ups

Poor planning and management were cited as the reason for the traffic congestion on Sunday as the vehicles invade a portion of the arterial roads outside the venue."Though we insisted the organisers to direct the vehicle owners who parked the two-wheelers outside the school campus to move the vehicles to the campus, they did not listen to our requests. Sunday’s event disrupting the traffic was not first and certainly not going to be the last unless city police educate the managements of grounds and private halls to avoid disrupting public movement.Traffic police said that poor planning in hosting events by renting a hall that is too small to accommodate the visitors or hiring venues in arterial spots without proper parking facility have been causing difficulties to the public. "Hotels and marriage halls in the city should take responsibility in catering adequate space for visitors to park their vehicles. Police should host awareness meeting with such private hall owners to help city roads remain congestion free," A Anbarasu, resident of VOC Road said.Besides poor planning, callous attitude of public who park their vehicle on the city roads was cited as the predominant reason for traffic snarls. "People nowadays lack social responsibility while commuting and even parking their vehicles. Public cooperation is needed for us to address the traffic woes," a senior police officer said.
