Trichy: Unidentified burglars struck at two houses in Ezhil Nagar in Thiruverumbur and decamped with gold jewellery in the early hours of Monday.The first incident took place at the residence of R Murugan, 43, a BHEL employee at JDR campus in Ezhil Nagar in Thiruverumbur. His wife, Vani and their children were at home while Murugan was at a private hospital where his mother was admitted on Sunday night. Around 3 am on Sunday night, few unidentified men climbed the compound wall to enter the residential complex and broke open the main door and gained entry into the house.They started breaking the bureau and stole gold jewellery worth 18 sovereigns. On hearing the noise, Vani woke up and came to the hall and found the burglars. They gagged her with a piece of cloth and tied her hands with rope before snatching her gold chain. They left the place with the valuables. Murugan rushed to the house on getting the news and informed the Thiruverumbur police. A complaint was registered.The burglars also targeted another house in the same apartment where the residents had gone to their relative’s house in Tirunelveli. The details of stolen items were yet to be ascertained due to the absence of residents.It may be recalled that two burglary incidents took place on July 13 at the residences of Ponnusamy, 62 and Arumugam, 61, in Thendral Nagar near Thiruverumbur.
