Vasthira Mariadhai to be offered at Tirupati

Anivara Ashtanam, which falls on Aadi 1 of Tamil calendar, is the annual festival of Tirupati temple.A centuries-old tradition, the ritual is called Vasthira Mariyadhai and is performed by taking holy gifts from Srirangam temple and offering them at Sri Venkateswara temple in Tirupati. Though the tradition has not been followed for some years, it resumed nearly 15 years ago,” he said. Srirangam temple joint commissioner P Jayaraman said that all necessary arrangements had been made for the smooth conduct of ritual.“This is a centuries-old tradition, done as a gratitude for Tirupati temple where the idol of deity Namperumal was provided custody for 40 years during the invasions in the 13th century.
