This was after the policy decision to convert constituent colleges into government colleges on June 1 this year. Meanwhile, a section of students in these colleges have decided to go on protest against the college management for collecting excess fee. Trichy: Principals of the constituent colleges under Bharathidasan University have been asked to strictly adhere to government norms of collecting the fees prescribed by state government, said P Manisankar, vice-chancellor of Bharathidasan University. The instruction came after TOI’s report on these colleges flouting norms and collecting exorbitant PTA fee from students. A meeting would also be called with the principals of all the seven constituent and three model colleges under Bharathidasan University to direct them on strict adherence of the state government’s order, said Manisankar, who added that he has sought details about the matter. The state government had directed these colleges to follow the same fee structure as the government colleges. Despite the BDU administration asking the colleges to adhere to the government’s decision, many of the colleges continue to collect fee as per the old fee structure.Sources from the university said that most of the principals being in-charge principals, who were appointed during the previous vice chancellor are refusing to adhere to the new directions of the university. The move of the present VC replacing the in-charge with permanent teachers in the university has also not gone well with them.
