AUT prez expelled for siding with teacher held for sexual harassment

Trichy: A teacher from Urumu Dhanalakshmi College arrested on charges of sexually harassing a colleague a few months ago and the president of Association of University Teachers (AUT) have been expelled from the association. Pasupathy was member of the UDC unit and secretary of AUT zone-VI.“It is indeed an unfortunate moment as a teacher’s body that is known for raising voice for the rights of teachers has to expel an officer-bearer, that too on charges of sexual harassment,” said AUT former president K Pandiyan.The woman who lodged the complaint is also a member of AUT.

While he is out on bail and a case is pending in the high court, the college has initiated an internal inquiry.On Sunday, AUT general council unanimously resolved to ratify decision of the central executive committee at a meeting held on July 1 to expel Pasupathy from AUT primary membership with effect from May 2.
