CM inaugurates two arms of multi-level bridge, lab

Two arms of a multi-level road overbridge (ROB) near Tiruchi Junction were inaugurated for vehicular traffic by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami through video-conferencing on Monday. In the second stage, the old bridge will be dismantled and two arms linking Kallukuzhi and railway quarters will be constructed. One of the arms stretches towards Madurai Road and the other towards Central Bus Stand. Nearly 90% of the first stage of the project has been completed and two more arms are ready to be opened, sources said. The ROB project, taken up by the Railways and the Highways department, is being executed in two stages through reconstruction of a narrow road overbridge across the railway lines near Tiruchi junction.

The Dindigul Highway-railway junction arm is already in use. Construction of the Chennai arm is to be undertaken by the State Highways department in the next stage. Transfer of a portion of defence land for the project is awaited. In the second stage, the old bridge will be dismantled and two arms linking Kallukuzhi and railway quarters will be constructed. Nearly 90% of the first stage of the project has been completed and two more arms are ready to be opened, sources said. The Chief Minister also inaugurated through video-conferencing a cath lab and a new building to house the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital. Collector K. Rajamani and Hospital Dean G. Anitha were present. The lab, which will cater to the needs of heart patients in Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Karur and Ariyalur districts, has been established at a cost of ?3.6 crore. The DEIC has come up at an expenditure of ?1 crore. The lab will carry out vital tests, including angiogram and angioplasty, while DIEC will treat children with ailments such as congenital contract, club foot, malnourishment and anemia.
