TRICHY: A day after TOI carried a report on slackness in penalising offenders dumping construction waste in public places, the Trichy Corporation on Wednesday swung into action and penalised a couple of vehicles caught dumping building debris near Konakkarai.Around three tonnes of construction waste were prevented from being dumped on the banks of the Kudamurutti river.As private contractors and logistics operators earlier were found dumping the construction waste in public spots including vacant lands and banks of water bodies, the corporation in 2016 identified less than acre land in all four zones to abandon construction waste. Subsequently, the civic body was using the debris to level the surface at needed places. However, heaps of construction waste mounds were mushrooming across vacant lands in recent past.As TOI on Wednesday carried a report titled “With slack penalising, building debris return to public spots”, corporation officials on caught two vehicles which were about to dump construction waste on the banks of Kudamurutti.“Two vehicles were spotted by a team of sanitary officials supervising the Kudamurutti banks near Konakkarai. They were about to dump three tonne of construction waste from a private site near Thiruvanaikoil. We have levied Rs 5,000 penalty at each,” a sanitary official with K Abishekapuram zone said.
