TRICHY: A day after The Times of India carried a report on the slackness in penalising offenders dumping construction waste across public spots at will, Trichy Corporation swung into action.A couple of vehicles found dumping building debris near Konakkarai on Wednesday were stopped and slapped fines. About 3 tonnes of construction waste was prevented from being deposited along the banks of Kudamurutti river. As private contractors and logistics operators were found dumping construction waste at public spots including vacant land and banks of water bodies, Trichy Corporation had in 2016 identified about an acre of land in all four zones to dump construction waste. The corporation also used the debris to level surfaces at some places. However, the purpose of designating such exclusive spots was not served as building waste was still seen in heaps across vacant land in the recent past. After TOI carried a report titled, “With slack penalising, building debris return to public spots” on Wednesday, Corporation officials caught two vehicles which were about to dump waste on the banks of Kudamurutti. “Two vehicles including a mini truck were spotted by a team of sanitary officials supervising the Kudamurutti banks near Konakkarai. They were on the verge of dumping 3 tonnes of construction waste from a private site near Thiruvanaikoil.
