TRICHY: Factional feud has hit the Trichy district unit of the Congress party. Former Trichy south district president of the party R C Babu and his supporters on Thursday alleged bias in the appointment of block presidents by the district functionaries of the party.Babu and his supporters were denied permission to hold a meeting at the Congress party office – Arunachala Mandram – here on Thursday morning. However, they held the meeting and raised objections to appointing some members, who joined the party recently from the BJP , as block presidents.“There were frictions between the factions in the Congress party earlier. Now, we are forced to fight for the rights for the diehard Congress members as the present functionaries are preferring people from the BJP who joined the Congress recently,” said Babu.Former president G Jerome Arockiaraj and a few other leaders also joined hands with Babu to protest against south district president Govindraj.At the meeting, the protesting Congress men passed some resolutions against the functionaries. This led to a scuffle.The Fort police reached the spot and forced the protesters to leave party office. The agitating Congressmen raised slogans and dispersed.
