TN police seize 100kg of sea cucumbers meant to be smuggled to China

TRICHY: Marine police on Thursday seized 100kg of sea cucumbers -- a marine species protected under the Wildlife Protection Act -- meant to be smuggled to China from Kottaipattinam in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu Based on information, personnel from Thiruppunavasal and Manamelkudi police stations, led by sub-inspectors Raghupathy and Jawahar, conducted a raid at the Kottaipattinam fishing jetty.They spotted a man -- who was later identified as N Sulaiman, 52, of Yakoophasanpettai in Kottaipattinam -- handling sea cucumbers.The police team recovered the 100kg of sea cucumbers, worth Rs 50,000, from him.After preliminary investigations, police handed over the man and the seized sea cucumbers to forest officials in Aranthangi.
