Pudukkottai: Marine police seized 100kg of sea cucumber worth Rs 50,000 meant to be smuggled to China via Sri Lanka from Kottaipattinam in Pudukkottai district on Thursday.Sea cucumber, a marine species, is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act.Based on information received by the Thiruppunavasal and Manamelkudi marine police, SI Raghupathy and SI Jawahar from the respective stations conducted a raid at Kottaipattinam fishing jetty here.Police recovered 100kg of sea cucumber from N Sulaiman, 52, of Yakoophasanpettai in Kottaipattinam in the district.After a preliminary investigation, marine police handed over the sea cucumber and the accused to the forest rangers for further action, sources said.
