Desilting work gathers pace

The Monitoring Officer for Nagapattinam district, D. Jagannathan, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Textbook Society, inspected the desilting works at Keezhaiyur and Thalaignayiru unions along with S. Suresh Kumar, Collector. Monitoring Officers and district Collectors continued to visit different parts of the delta districts for the second day on Friday to inspect the progress of desilting and kudmaramathu works. In Thanjavur district, T. Anand, Joint Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and Monitoring Officer, and A. Annadurai, Collector, inspected the removal of silt from the canals at Orathanadu, Thanjavur, Pattukottai and Peravoorani areas.

Kamaraj said in Tiruvarur on Friday. The district administration and the Monitoring Officers deputed by the government were supervising the works to complete them at the earliest and ensure that the water released from Mettur reservoir reached the tail end areas, Mr. Kamaraj said after inspecting the desilting work on irrigation canals at Oorukudi village along with E. Saravanavelraj, Joint Secretary, School Education Department and Monitoring Officer, and L. Nirmal Raj, Collector. Monitoring Officers and district Collectors continued to visit different parts of the delta districts for the second day on Friday to inspect the progress of desilting and kudmaramathu works. Director of Horticulture N. Subbaiyan and Tiruchi Collector K. Rajamani visited Poolankudi, Tiruverumbur, Ellakudi, Adavathur, Thiruparaithurai and Pettavaithalai to inspect the desilting works. They also inspected the aqueduct at the Puthur weir in Tiruchi city. In Thanjavur district, T.
