Trichy: Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday gave away degrees to students of Tamil University in Thanjavur at the convocation on the campus in. Conferring the degrees on the students, the governor urged them to lead a simple life as it would take them to a new high.“Lead a simple life. It will take your fame to a new high. I love Tamil, as it is a sweet language,” he said in Tamil.Some of the 732 students from 28 departments received their degree certificates on various disciplines. Retired judge T N Vallinayagam delivered the convocational address.Addressing the event, K Pandiarajan, state minister for Tamil official language and Tamil culture, said that efforts are on to obtain Unesco status for book Thirukkural.“Tamil Nadu government is making efforts to get universal status to the book Thirukkural from Unesco. This will show the world on how antique the book is," he said.“The Tamil Chair has started functioning at Harvard University. The same will be started in various universities across the world such as Oxford, Johanasbark, Malaysia and Jaffna before the year-end, he added.
