Efforts on to rescue Indian gaur from well

Trichy: An Indian guar fell into a well in a village near Manapparai on the outskirts of Trichy in the early hours on Saturday. However, their efforts went in vain as the animal started to behave violently.“The efforts to get inside the well will be harmful to our staff as the gaur will turn violent towards them. So, we have asked for a veterinarian from Sathiyamangalam to sedate the animal and carry out the rescue operation,” D Sujatha, district forest officer, Trichy told TOI. The rescue operation to pull out the animal was underway on Saturday night. The forest officials sought help from Sathiyamangalam forest range to sedate the animal for its easy rescue.A three-year-old female gaur landed in the 40-feet deep rocky well at Vellayagoundampatti near Puthanatham near Manapparai on Saturday morning.

The water in the well was knee-deep for the animal. People in the village took the matter to the forest department officials, who visited the spot and made attempts to lift the animal from the well using ladder and rope. However, their efforts went in vain as the animal started to behave violently.“The efforts to get inside the well will be harmful to our staff as the gaur will turn violent towards them. So, we have asked for a veterinarian from Sathiyamangalam to sedate the animal and carry out the rescue operation,” D Sujatha, district forest officer, Trichy told TOI. The veterinarian reached the spot on Saturday night. tnn
