Firm owner booked, 2 held for buying stolen jewellery

Trichy: Thiruverumbur police booked the founder of Attica Gold Company, Bommanhalli Babu, and arrested two of his employees at the Namakkal branch on Friday night for buying stolen gold jewellery. The woman was robbed of gold jewellery worth three sovereigns by the trio on July 4. He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the company bought about 50 sovereigns of jewellery from the couple. Pandi and his two men would operate in the night robbing jewellery at knife point. This follows the arrest of a Srilankan refugee couple for indulging in robberies in Namakkal and Trichy.The inspector in-charge at Thuvakudi police station, Madan, registered cases against the founder of the Bengaluru-based gold buying company on charges of concealment of stolen valuables.

Trichy: Thiruverumbur police booked the founder of Attica Gold Company, Bommanhalli Babu, and arrested two of his employees at the Namakkal branch on Friday night for buying stolen gold jewellery. This follows the arrest of a Srilankan refugee couple for indulging in robberies in Namakkal and Trichy.The inspector in-charge at Thuvakudi police station, Madan, registered cases against the founder of the Bengaluru-based gold buying company on charges of concealment of stolen valuables. The police also arrested the appraiser, A Murugesan, 28 from Pennagaram in Dharmapuri district and executive supervisor K Sakthivel, 30, from Mettur in Salem district for buying gold jewellery from Roopa, 22, the wife of the prime accused, Rajan alias Kettiyan Pandi, 33. The couple from the refugee camp in Namakkal had already been arrested and lodged in Puzhal prison.“Roopa used to bring the ornaments robbed by her husband to the Namakkal branch of Attica Gold Company and sell them. The staff knowingly brought the gold from her. CCTV footages confirmed the transaction. The staff also admitted that they bought the gold from her after getting consent from their boss Babu,” inspector Madan told TOI. He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the company bought about 50 sovereigns of jewellery from the couple. The police have also named a senior manager of the firm in the FIR.Initially, the police had booked Pandi and his accomplices Sivaguru and Vigneswaran in a case related to a robbery from a woman refugee, Devakumari at Vazhavandhankottai in Trichy. The woman was robbed of gold jewellery worth three sovereigns by the trio on July 4. While his accomplices were caught by the police the same day, Pandi and his wife were arrested while attempting to flee to Srilanka from Trichy international airport a couple of days ago.The modus operandi of the couple was to recce the areas in Namakkal district, Thiruverumbur and Thuvakudi in Trichy district in the morning as if looking for a house for rental. Pandi and his two men would operate in the night robbing jewellery at knife point.
