more-in The mysterious death of a 14-year-old boy at Somarasampet on the city's outskirts recently turned out to be a shocking case of murder allegedly committed by his own mother, a widow who found him a hindrance to her illicit affair with a co-worker. The police confirmed the murder and arrested the mother and her accomplice in the crime. The Somarasampet police which probed the case by initially registering it as a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure have now altered it as a case of murder. Police gave the name of the deceased as V. Anguraj, who was a class XI student in a school at Somarasampet. On July 20, the victim's mother V. Meena (39) rushed out of her house at Shanthapuram in Allithurai village raising an alarm that her son was in an unconscious state. On hearing her scream, locals rushed to Meena's house and took the boy to a nearby hospital. However, he was dead by then. On a complaint lodged by the boy's uncle, the Somarasampet police registered a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The body was sent for post mortem. Getting suspicious over some marks on the boy's neck, the locals alerted the Somarasampet police. Based on the post mortem report that the boy had died of strangulation, the police commenced investigation. The boy's mother who worked as a construction labourer was inquired as part of the probe. Conflicting versions reportedly given by the boy's mother and her friend K. Lakshmi (39), also a construction labourer, who was present on that day when the boy died further triggered suspicion. Police said Meena had an illegal affair with a worker by name Muthaian. The boy had come to know about the affair due to which his mother decided to eliminate him, the police said. Following detailed inquiries, the Somarasampet police arrested Meena and Lakshmi on Saturday. Muthaian was named the third accused in the murder case.
