Two pedestrians fatally knocked down near Perambalur

Two pedestrians, including a 23-year-old woman, were fatally knocked down by a car after the vehicle lost control following a tyre burst on the Tiruchi - Chennai national highway in the district on Sunday. The fatal accident occurred at Vijayagopalapuram near Perambalur in the morning when the two pedestrians S. Meena (23) and M. Marudhupandian (25) were walking on the road side. Car driver R. Sridhar (55) was arrested. The driver of the car bound for Kodaikanal from Chennai lost control after two of the vehicle’s tyres suddenly burst. The vehicle veered towards the left and dashed against the two pedestrians.

The two worked in a private dairy unit at Vijayagopalapuram Police sources said Meena and Marudhupandian were walking towards the Vijayagopalapuram bus stop from the unit to board a bus when the tragedy struck. The driver of the car bound for Kodaikanal from Chennai lost control after two of the vehicle’s tyres suddenly burst. The vehicle veered towards the left and dashed against the two pedestrians. They died on the spot. Car driver R. Sridhar (55) was arrested. The Padalur police have registered a case.
