Trichy: The ongoing 83km electrification work between Karur and Salem would be completed by the end of December 2018, said Salem divisional railway manager (DRM), U Subba Rao after inspecting the ongoing projects and passenger amenities in Erode to Karur section on Friday.During his inspection at Kodumudi station he directed officials to provide vehicle parking stand in the circulating area of the main entrance and extension of platform shelter at both the platforms.Later, talking to reporters, Rao said that the electrification projects from Erode to Trichy and Karur to Dindigul have been completed and now the 83km Karur to Salem stretch is under process. “It will be completed by the end of December,” the DRM said.“The total cost of electrification work of Karur section is Rs 350 crore. There has been a demand for extension of Salem to Chennai Egmore Express (train no. 22153/22154) to Karur by the deputy speaker of Lok Sabha M Thambidurai and people of Karur. It has been sent to the railway headquarters for further approval,” he added.Rao further said that Karur would get a deluxe pay-and-use toilet with cloak room facilities and new catering stalls also. The division has also proposed to attach an additional coach to train no. 56713/56712 Trichy - Palakkad Town passenger.
