More snatching, attention diversion cases reported

Trichy: The city police received a complaint of chain snatching from a 45-year-old woman in Srirangam on Monday, in an incident which took place a month back. Though the incident took place nearly a month back, the woman filed a complaint yesterday only after her husband, who was away on work in another district, returned. On September 6, a 65-year-old woman from Gorimedu was conned by two people posing as policemen.On September 3, a 58-year-old man was cheated of Rs 1 lakh near his house at KK Nagar in Trichy by two miscreants who distracted his attention by throwing some currency notes on the road. In another incident, a man was robbed after his attention was diverted in Trichy on Monday.B Vaidheki, 45 from Periyar Nagar in Thiruvanaikovil in Trichy city lodged a complaint with the Srirangam police on Monday alleging that her two sovereign gold chain was snatched by two unidentified men at Periyar Nagar 2nd street on August 16.She alleged that the men followed her on a motorcycle and thar the pillion rider snatched her chain.

The police have registered a case.Recently, on September 9, a 62-year-old woman also fell victim to chain snatching on North Andar street and on September 6 another 64-year-old woman was robbed by chain snatchers near the Union Club in the city.In another case, a thief diverted the attention of a man and stole Rs 10,000 cash from his pocket on Kumbakonathan road in Srirangam on Monday evening.V Jeganathan, 31, from Puthur, was on the way to the regional transport office in Srirangam when a man approached him saying that there was some stain on the back of his shirt.
