Cultural festival begins today

FileFestember, the annual cultural festival of National Institute of Technology - Tiruchi (NIT-T), is set to unfold for four days this week from Thursday with an array of events that are expected to draw 15,000 people from 500 colleges across the country. The variety of event cluster include dance, music, dramatics, fashion, photography and literary events spanning multiple languages, NIT-T Director Mini Shaji Thomas told mediapersons on Tuesday. Another major facet of the festival is workshops teaching new skills.

Based on the theme ‘Arabian Odyssey,’ the events will witness performances by renowned artistes. The variety of event cluster include dance, music, dramatics, fashion, photography and literary events spanning multiple languages, NIT-T Director Mini Shaji Thomas told mediapersons on Tuesday. For the guest lecture series titled ‘Carpe Diem’ - Stories that inspire, the student organisers have invited eminent personalities in the field of music, film-making, dance, writing, and art. The speakers include cine director P. Vasu, Aruna Sairam, Nithya Menon, author Ashwin Sanghi, playback singer Karthik and foley artiste Karan Arjun Singh. Another major facet of the festival is workshops teaching new skills. The Festember Social Responsibility was achieved through a variety of initiatives, Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas said. There will be cultural performances at the end on all days. The band, Pineapple Express, will perform for Fusion Night, bands Skrat and Switcheroo for Rock Night, DJ Sabrina Terence for EDM Night and popular Bollywood singer Sunidhi Chauhan will perform as part of Popular Night on the final day, organisers said.
