Trichy: Woraiyur police arrested a 20-year-old man for attempting to break open a Canara Bank ATM of Puthur branch in Trichy here on Wednesday.The accused was identified as Rubesh, a resident of Thennur. Police said that the issue came to light after the branch manager of the bank, Balaji, 30, lodged a complaint with the police on Tuesday.Balaji in his complaint stated that he loaded cash into the ATM on Saturday night. A couple of days later, he visited the ATM and found few screws of the front side of the machine unbolted. Suspecting foul play, he called up the Woraiyur police. Police also visited the place and confirmed that there was an attempt to break it. The police registered a case based on his complaint and started the probe. The footage of the CCTV inside the ATM room was verified by the bank officials and the police. The footage gave them a vital clue about the identity of the accused.The police ascertained his identity and were on the lookout for him. They arrested him on Wednesday. Subramanian, sub-inspector of police, crime, Woraiyur police station said that Balaji was working in fish market in Puthur and had no previous history of offence. The accused was produced before the court on Wednesday evening. tnn
