Bhel workers take out rally seeking wage revision

Trichy: Demanding a wage revision, hundreds of workers with Bhel staged a demonstration and carried out a protest rally at the Bhel township near Thuvakudi on Thursday. The last wage revision as many as 5,000 workers here saw was in 2007,” K Arunan, vice president, CITU, Bhel said.While the wage revision at the Bhel factories across the nation will be sanctioned by a joint committee constituted by Bhel, protesting workers sought their management to fast-track the formation of such committee. “Our wages are being revised once in 10 years but we want the wage revision period to be reduced to 5 years. Workers said that they will be forced to intensify the protest if their management remains mute to their demands. Protesting employees of the Maharatna firm also sought their management to revise the wages of workers once in 5 years instead of the present system where wage revision is done once in 10 years.The protesting workers belonging to various employee grades including artisans and welders attached to Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) in Bhel Trichy said that their wages should have been revised by January 2017 which is on due till date.Seeking the management to revise their wages by minimum 40% from their current pay scale, workers staged a demonstration near factory entrance while welders carried out a protest rally demanding the attention of their management to provide welding allowance.
