Derogatory speech: Cases against BJP’s Raja in 4 stations

MADURAI/TRICHY: The Vedachandur police in Dindigul district, the Kanyakumari district police, the Karur town police and the Pudukottai police have registered separate cases against BJP national secretary H Raja for his alleged derogatory remarks against officials of the Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR&CE) department and their family members.Raja made the alleged derogatory remarks while addressing a meeting at Vedachanthur in Dindigul district a few days ago.His speech attracted widespread protests in Tamil Nadu . They lodged complaints against him at several police stations, including in the Vedachanthur police station.In Kanyakumari district, they lodged complaints at Kottar, Suchindram and Kanyakumari police stations.The Kottar police booked the BJP leader under four Sections 294(b) (use of obscene words), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act.The Karur town police registered a case against him based on a complaint filed by HR&CE assistant commissioner Suriya Narayanan and 55 others.In his complaint, Narayanan stated that Raja had called the HR&CE officials corrupt and said their action was equivalent to selling their womenfolk for money.The Karur town police registered a case against him under Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 355 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person) of the IPC.Meanwhile, the Ganesh Nagar police in Pudukottai district booked the BJP national secretary on Thursday under four Sections 153, 353, 354 and 355 of the IPC, based on a complaint lodged by the employees of HR and CE in the district two days ago.
