TRICHY: Welcoming the inauguration of a special court to try cases against elected representatives, Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Vasan on Friday said the rules were not above the law.“We welcome the special court for elected representatives. “The elected representatives should maintain dignity and speak responsibly in public places,” he said.Vasan advised the state government to support farmers instead of turning hostile to them. “The state and central governments are not waiving off the loans of the farmers. They should change their attitude towards farmers,” he said.

TRICHY: Welcoming the inauguration of a special court to try cases against elected representatives, Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Vasan on Friday said the rules were not above the law.“We welcome the special court for elected representatives. MPs and MLAs are not messengers of god. They are representatives of people. The law is equal for everyone. The law for the common people should be for all,” Vasan told reporters after attending a marriage function here.On convicts enjoying luxurious life in Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai, Vasan demanded severe action against the jail staff members who facilitated such things.“The officials and the politicians became black sheep to change the concept of prison being a place for punishment and provide lavish facilities to the prisoners. Action should be taken against all of them to uphold the principles, discipline and rules in prisons,” he said.Asked about the pending governor’s decision on the release of convicts of Rajiv Gandhi, he said he hoped that the governor would take a good decision as per law.He condemned actor and MLA Karunas’ alleged derogatory remarks against the chief minister, the deputy chief minister and a police officer. “The elected representatives should maintain dignity and speak responsibly in public places,” he said.Vasan advised the state government to support farmers instead of turning hostile to them. “The state and central governments are not waiving off the loans of the farmers.
