Trichy: Two wage workers fell into a 60 feet well while digging it when they were on their way up after completing the work on Thursday in a village in Perambalur district.The deceased were identified as M Jayakumar, 40 and S Thangarasu, 50, both from Neikuppai village near Veppanthattai. V Kalathur police registered a case and conducted investigation regarding the incident.According to police, the incident happened at around 5pm when both Jayakumar and Thangarasu working on a well-extension process at Neikuppai.The duo was said to have been collecting stones from the well and sending it up through a lifting equipment normally used while digging quarries. After completing the work, both sat on a tyre fitted to the equipment at the same time to be lifted outside the well.Since both sat on the same time, a woman who was operating the machine -- due to heavy weight -- wasn’t able to lift them up properly. As a result, Thangarasu initially lost balance while they were half way up and fell into the dry well. Soon, Jayakumar also lost balance and fell into the well. While Jayakumar died on the spot from a severe head injury, Thangarasu who suffered multiple injuries was rushed to Perambalur general hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
