Drunk man sets vehicles, shops on fire after fight with wife

Manapparai police also reached the spot.In few minutes, the news about two bikes, one shop in Masthan Street and two shops in Muthan Street being torched spread in the village. He consumed liquor frequently which led to quarrel between him and his wife regularly, said police.On Friday night, he went to his house in an inebriated state. He rushed out of his house after seeing his car go up in flames.Manapparai fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot on information and tried to douse the fire.

Trichy: A 38-year-old man, who was in an inebriated state, set a car, two two-wheelers and three shops on fire after a dispute with his wife in Thoppupatti village in Manapparai on the outskirts of Trichy on Friday.The car was parked in front of a house in Azhagarsamy Street in Thoppupatti and belonged to a resident, Jayakumar. He rushed out of his house after seeing his car go up in flames.Manapparai fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot on information and tried to douse the fire. By then, the car was completely burnt. Manapparai police also reached the spot.In few minutes, the news about two bikes, one shop in Masthan Street and two shops in Muthan Street being torched spread in the village. Despite efforts by the fire-fighters, the bikes and shops were partly damaged in the fire.Police recovered footage from the CCTV camera installed in front of Jayakumar’s house and got a clue about the identity of the man who was seen setting the car afire.The accused was identified as George, a painter from Thoppupatti and police nabbed him on Saturday morning. Enquiry with him revealed that he was married and had four children. He consumed liquor frequently which led to quarrel between him and his wife regularly, said police.On Friday night, he went to his house in an inebriated state. He became upset after his wife reprimanded him and walked out of the house. After he left, he torched the car, bikes and shops out of frustration, police said.
