He was in Tiruvarur to attend a Karunanidhi memorial function. While speaking at the meeting, Alagiri alleged that he had received information that a few people have been asking ‘higher-ups’ to not conduct the Tiruvarur by-election. He added that if such an election was conducted, there was a high possibility of him winning by spending money lesser than the slab fixed by the election commission. On being asked about him constantly being linked with BJP and Rajinikanth, he dismissed them as false rumours. Alagiri said that though he had several times said that he would be willing to accept his brother M K Stalin as DMK chief, he still has not got any response from the party. He also said that he had no plans of floating a new political party.Meanwhile, reacting to Alagiri’s intention to contest elections in Tiruvarur, DMK Tiruvarur district secretary K Kalaivanan said that he did not want to comment on it. “’Thalaivar (Karunanidhi) himself had expelled Alagiri from the party. This means that his so-called loyalists also do not belong to DMK in any way. So there is no need for us to comment on Alagiri’s statement or his loyalists’ wish,” Kalaivanan said.Responding to Alagiri’s statement that he did not got any response from the DMK despite accepting Stalin as his leader, Kalaivanan added, “If DMK accepts a person who in the past has committed mistakes, it would set a wrong precedent in the party.”
