TRICHY: Unidentified people desecrated two statues of social reformer and Dravida Kazhagam founder Periyar E V Ramasamy near Somarasampettai in Trichy district and near Orathanadu in Thanjavur district on Monday.Dravida Kazhagam functionary S Sebastian filed a complaint with the Somarasampettai police stating that a stick on the EVR statue had been found lying on the ground. He said some people had damaged the statue and urged the police to take action against the culprits.The statue of Periyar at Kavarappattu near Orathanadu in Thanjavur district was found desecrated in the early hours of Monday. Miscreants placed a garland made of slippers on the statue.The Orathanadu police began investigations.Dravida Kazhagam cadre staged a demonstration in Orathanadu demanding action against the miscreants.
