Trichy international airport new terminal design qualified for WAN awards

TRICHY: Trichy international airport’s new terminal designed by Pascal Watson has qualified as a finalist for the WAN (World Architecture News) Awards in the Transport-Future project category. Of them, the Pascal Watson’s Trichy international airport design has been selected for the final competition. Trichy airport terminal design was the lone design registered for the award from across India.The WAN, an independent global agency, has identified the shortlisted submissions in each of the 30 categories. Pascal Watson is the design team leader for the concept design, master planning, architectural, interior and wayfinding design services, airport authorities from Trichy said.While addressing the reporters here on Sunday, chief operating officer of Egis (a subsidiary of the French Engineering group), Vikas Chopra said that the winners of each category would be revealed at an event to be held at the London Hilton Bankside on November 20, 2018. While stating about Trichy airport design, the jury had stated that climatic constraints, local customs and specific Indian security processes have been considered in the design and are reflected in the aesthetic, planning and structural solutions, he said.“During November this year our team may be there in London to receive the award,” he said.Impressive projects that made the shortlists were under 30 categories including Education, Education - Future project, Adaptive Reuse, Healthcare - Future projects, Affordable Housing, Sustainable buildings, Wood in Architecture, Landscape, Urban design - Future projects, Concrete in Architecture, Metal Architecture, Transport, Transport - Future projects, Residential, Civic buildings, and Sport in architecture.
