The mandapam is located a few metres away from the Srirangam Temple rajagopuram and close to the Srirangam police station. Police sources said one of the stone pillars of the mandapam suffered extensive damage. The Srirangam police erected barricades as a precautionary measure in front of the mandapam.

The incident occurred on Saturday night when the goods carrier was transporting massive boulders to Mukkombu via Srirangam for the ongoing restoration works at the regulator across the Kollidam river. Police sources said one of the stone pillars of the mandapam suffered extensive damage. The mandapam is located a few metres away from the Srirangam Temple rajagopuram and close to the Srirangam police station. The Srirangam police erected barricades as a precautionary measure in front of the mandapam.
