The neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), which is claimed to help people overcome phobias, anxiety disorders and help them achieve their goals in life, is the latest fad in Trichy. According to experts, NLP is based on the concept of ‘reprograming the brain’ using language and behavioural skills to overcome a certain issue or to develop the necessary mindset to achieve a certain goal.Several training programmes by NLP coaches have been organised over the past one year in the city, with almost every workshop witnessing a good turnout. Colleges in Trichy have especially been giving an extra emphasis on NLP apart from conducting workshops, a few professors have also been attending the training programmes to enhance their teaching skills. On Wednesday, Holy Cross College (HCC) had kick-started a two-day national workshop on NLP.Master trainer of NLP, R Karthik from Bengaluru, who was at the HCC workshop, said that the concept has been catching up in Trichy because people have realised its potential as it’s being used by top personalities worldwide. He said that in 2018 alone, he conducted three workshops in Trichy. “Even most of the scripts of speeches delivered by politicians are NLP-based nowadays. Apart from this, all top sportspersons and other famous celebrities are now getting trained in NLP,” Karthik claimed. Although the neurologists gave a thumbs-down to the concept calling it a ‘pseudo-science’ and there was no evidence to back the claims that NLP is effective in anyway.
