Trichy: It’s not very often that theatres in Trichy run full house during week days unless it is a big budget film or film starring A-listers.However, this week was an exception as small budget films have caught the fancy of cinema lovers.Shows were running houseful for the past three days and are expected to remain so till Friday as two big films are also going to hit the screens.“I had to park my bike outside Sona-Meena theatre in Cantonment to inquire for availability of tickets on Wednesday as the theatre could not accommodate anymore vehicles inside,” said S Selaraj, a movie buff from the city.He could not find such anticipation even for big budget films but said he had to return without tickets for Pariyerum Perumal, a film by debutant director Mari Selvaraj that released two weeks ago.Mani Ratnam films have always been a crowd puller. This week, along with his multi-starrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, a few small budget films too are doing good business, said theatre owners.Stating that theatres had not witnessed such a scenario in the recent months, S Srither, joint secretary of Tamil Nadu theatres owners association, said that roughly eight movies in the past four weeks have kept the theatres packed despite it being an off season as far as theatres are concerned.“This has once against reiterated the fact that good scripts, irrespective of the star cast would succeed on box office with public support,” he said adding that these films would survive this week as well despite six films being slated to be released.“However, on 18th we have two big releases, Sandakozhi and Vada Chennai, which are likely to occupy most of the theatres in the state,” said another theatre owner near Chatram bus stand.
