Family of five booked for usury

In return Gopal asked Sait to hand over his ATM card and ten blank cheques of his bank account as security to the loan. When he confronted Gopal with this and asked him to return his card and cheque leaves, Gopal got infuriated. They even refused to return him the card and the cheques, police said.Police have registered a case and booked the five and an investigation is on going in this regard. Trichy: Trichy city police registered a case against a family, of five people, for allegedly involving in usury by collecting exorbitant interest rates on principal amounts from a reired employee of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) in Trichy on Wednesday.The Woraiyur police booked Gopal, G Gokulakrishnan, 35, G Venkatesan, 39, G Jayaraman 45 and Gopal’s wife based on a complaint filed by M Sait, 63, a resident of Manakkal, a retired TNSTC driver.Police said, Sait borrowed Rs 80,000 from Gopal in 2014 to meet some family expense.

Sait agreed to the same.Gopal would withdraw cash from the debit card every month as interest to his loan, police added.Sait in his complaint alleged that Gopal had so far withdrawn Rs 5,23,500 from his bank account. When he confronted Gopal with this and asked him to return his card and cheque leaves, Gopal got infuriated. He and his family, allegedly, verbally abused Sait and threatened him of dire consequences. They even refused to return him the card and the cheques, police said.Police have registered a case and booked the five and an investigation is on going in this regard.
