Students told to approach depots on bus pass plaint

Trichy: A section of college students took up the non-disbursal of bus pass by the transport department with district collector K Rajamani on Monday. Mohan said that bus passes had not been issued by the transport department till now for both school and college students. The collector said that the transport department had assured him that bus passes would be issued within a month. However, the delay in disbursal of identity cards by the colleges has come as an obstacle for first-year students to take the government buses. While the students raised the issue of bus conductors not allowing them into the buses, the collector asked them to complain against such staff to the nearest TNSTC depot.When the delay in disbursal of bus pass was raised last month, the transport department had directed the bus conductors to allow students with college identity cards.

However, the delay in disbursal of identity cards by the colleges has come as an obstacle for first-year students to take the government buses. “While the colleges have started giving duplicate identity cards to the students till the original ones arrive, many bus conductors are not allowing students with the duplicate identity cards,” said K Mohan, district president of Students’ Federation of India (SFI).“We brought the issue to the notice of the collector. He promised to take up the matter with the transport department and asked us to lodge complaint with the nearest TNSTC depot against the erring conductors,” he said. The collector said that the transport department had assured him that bus passes would be issued within a month.
